History is Gay is a monthly podcast where two queer nerds use their passion for social justice, history, and storytelling to examine the overlooked and underappreciated queer ladies, gents, and gentle-enbies from the unexplored corners of history. Because history has never been as straight as you think.

We kept talking about how many LGBT+ folk have always existed in human history, but we're erased or sidelined or 'just friended' away. So we decided that if no one else was going to do it, we would!

The cisheteronormative world at large needs to see and acknowledge that queer people are not 'new' or a 'trend'.  And for ourselves, its so encouraging and uplifting to have that chain of history taking us back. We're rooted in rich soil! How many queer kids would feel more empowered to live authentically and truthfully if they knew stories like their own are peppered throughout the whole of history- imagine if this learning were as commonplace in history class as learning the date the Declaration of Independence was signed. Plus, all your faves? Super gay. 

So, we embark on a journey ripe with information, inclusion, and a healthy amount of silliness. Come along for the ride with us!

Leigh Pfeffer (they/them) is a big ol' queermo who can't (and won't) shut up about TV, comics, and the importance of representation on-screen and off. They have a degree in European History and Theater, and wrote their thesis on ascetic medieval women and all the ways they messed with the patriarchy, and flirted for a long time with slapping on an archaeology degree as well, because why not! Now, they can usually be seen frantically running around craft stores working on cosplays, spending entirely way too much money at comic conventions, and muttering obscenities under breath at Adobe Premiere Pro while honing video editing skills. And usually consuming more Netflix than is probably healthy. Likes: seeing hopeful and representative stories reflected in media, new comic book Wednesdays, also tea, petting all the dogs, and their bed. Dislikes: cisheteronormativity, the patriarchy, and the word moist.

Gretchen Jones (she/her) is an unabashed and flamingly bisexual nerdy fangirl. She has a degree in Church History/Historical Theology from back when she was a conservative Christian and in the closet, and a degree in Hebrew Language and Rabbinics from when she was working past both of those things. Now, she spends her time talking about themes and characters and shit as a media critic, podcaster, and Managing Editor for The Fandomentals and her own website. Other than this podcast, she hosts “The Fandomentalist,” a podcast about geeky media analysis, and is a frequent guest and former cohost of “Ladies First,” a podcast about queer ladies. Oh, and she’s also trying to get her first novel---a sci-fi with queer, multi-ethnic, and neurodiverse protagonists---published. Likes: diverse representation, tea, mythology, her cats, her partner, and wine. Dislikes: the patriarchy, grimdark, and coffee.
